## What is Vasculitis?
Vasculitis is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation of the blood vessels. It causes changes in the blood vessel walls, including thickening, weakening, narrowing or scarring. These changes can restrict blood flow, resulting in organ and tissue damage. There are different types of vasculitis ranging from acute conditions that last a short time, to others that can be chronic conditions that persist over a longer period of time.
## Developing Vasculitis After a Vaccine
In recent years, there has been a growing concern about the potential for developing vasculitis after receiving a vaccine. Vasculitis is believed to be an autoimmune response to an infection or a medication, including a vaccine. Vaccines stimulate the body’s immune system, which helps to defend it against infection and other foreign substances. In some cases, however, the immune response overwhelms the body and can cause the blood vessels to become inflamed, ultimately leading to vasculitis.
