Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect more than just your joints. The condition can damage a wide variety of body systems, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels. As an autoimmune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body’s tissues. It affects the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity. The inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis is what can damage other parts of the body as well. While new types of medications have improved treatment options dramatically, severe rheumatoid arthritis can still cause physical disabilities. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis typically include tender, warm, swollen joints, joint stiffness that is usually worse in the mornings and after inactivity, fatigue, fever and loss of appetite.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. The immune system attacks the protective myelin sheath that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerves. Symptoms of MS vary widely and depend on the amount of nerve damage and which nerves are affected, but such symptoms include the inability to walk independently, tremors, numbness or weakness in the arms or legs, electric shock in the neck, fatigue, slurred speech, dizziness and vision problems.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems, including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Lupus can be difficult to diagnose because its signs and symptoms often mimic those of other ailments. The most distinctive sign of lupus is a facial rash that resembles the wings of a butterfly unfolding across both cheeks occurs in many cases of lupus. Additional symptoms include fatigue, fever, joint pain, stiffness and swelling, skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure, fingers and toes turning white or blue when exposed to cold, shortness of breath, chest pain, dry eyes, headaches, confusion and memory loss
Vasculitis is inflammation of your blood vessels. It causes changes in the blood vessel walls, including thickening, weakening, narrowing or scarring. These changes can restrict blood flow, resulting in organ and tissue damage.
There are many types of vasculitis, and most of them are rare. Vasculitis might affect just one organ, or several. The condition can be short term (acute) or long lasting (chronic). Symptoms of vasculitis include fever, headache, fatigue, weight loss, general aches and pains, night sweats, rash, numbness or weakness.
